Healthy smoothie recipes: Strawberry Mango Surprise:
You will need:
- 1 ripe mango, peeled and sliced into large chunks
- 9-10 strawberries (fresh not frozen)
- 2 frozen bananas (make sure they’re fully ripened with plenty of brown spots before you freeze them! Simply pop them in the freezer at night before you go to bed, and voila! They’ll be ready for you when you wake up).
DO NOT ADD WATER!!!
*If you’re especially hungry or you’re making this mango smoothie recipe for more than one person, add 2 room temperature bananas and/or a second mango
- First, place the chopped mango chunks and the fresh strawberries into your blender and blend until smooth.
- Next, add the frozen bananas and then blend until very smooth. Pop the bananas into your freezer at night before you go to sleep and in the morning, they’re ready to use in your healthy smoothie recipes.
Do you know a ripe banana from an unripe banana?
Are your bananas ripe? They’re ripe when they have plenty of brown spots. They should look this:
Eating fruit only when it’s ripe is super important for us healthy eaters because only then are the flavors and the vitamins “unlocked.” Remember: eating unripe fruit = indigestion + gas + bland flavor!
Unripe bananas taste and smell starchy, have little flavor and are hard to peel. Ripe bananas smell and taste sweet and they peel easily.
If you want to make healthy smoothie recipes and other delicious goodies like my homemade sugar-free desserts, salad dressings and sauces a part of your everyday diet, then you’re going to want to invest in a REAL BLENDER!!!
I cannot more highly recommend the Vita-mix blender. It’s an investment of money, but I can honestly say it’s worth every penny. Finally giving up those cheap blenders and getting a Vita-mix professional blender was, for me, like getting out of a twenty year old pickup truck and sliding behind the wheel of a BMW! One of the best decisions I’ve ever made.
